The Major Players
Jack W. Moncrief, MD - Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Jack Moncrief has been a practicing nephrologist for the past 35 years. During that time, Dr. Moncrief has 9 issued patents which generated royalties for at least 17 years. He used these funds to support his research laboratory, which did both human and animal research including wound management. Dr. Moncrief is responsible, in Austin, Texas, for arranging and directing the first kidney transplant, for managing the immunology of the recipient to prevent rejection of the kidney, for the first successful kidney dialysis, for initiating the heart transplant program and organizing the specialty clinics at the Charity Hospital (Brackenridge). He was the first physician in Texas to do privately funded dialysis.
Dr. Moncrief is known world wide for his co-inventorship of Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD), the type of dialysis used in most countries including underdeveloped countries and in pediatric patients. This dialysis has to do with creating a wound into the peritoneal cavity, so Moncrief had to also develop a technique to prevent external contamination of the wound. It was Dr. Moncrief's background in developing this knowledge, that made him a key player in Kenilin's research.
On April 17, 2007, Dr. Moncrief was honored at the State University of New York as one of the seven influential physicians who have benefited patients with kidney disease. In September 2007, in Washington, DC, the DaVita Patient Citizens is honoring Dr. Moncrief as the recipient of the DPC Physician Second Annual Award. This group represents the nation's largest dialysis patient organization, with over 20,000 members nationwide. Last year's recipient was "the father of dialysis," the inventor of the artificial kidney, Dr. Wile Kolff.
Kenneth Burton MD - Chief Executive Officer
Dr. Kenneth Burton has been a physician for over 55 years. While in the military, he was a flight surgeon for Presidents Truman and Eisenhower. Dr. Burton then established a successful Family General Practice in San Antonio, Texas, which he ran for over 40 years. He served as Chief of Staff at the Baptist Memorial Hospital System, and helped to expand its mission and build three satellite hospitals to serve the greater San Antonio population. Dr. Burton now practices 150 hours a month in Lake Charles, LA, at the Urgent Care Center, seeing 45 to 55 patients daily. Dr. Burton is renowned for his visionary approaches in acute care, endocrinology, and innovative protocols for a wide variety of difficult-to-treat disorders.
Lindsey Berkson MA CNS - Chief Operating Officer
D. Lindsey Berkson is a major driving force behind Kenilin. After reading Dr. Burton’s research, she initiated their collaboration on developing Kenilin. The author of seven books on health, nutrition, and the environment, Berkson has formulated nutraceuticals for over 20 years, including the Fem Line with Metagenics and the Gastroline with Allergy Research (nutrient lines carried by physicians). A former consulting scholar at the Center for Bioenvironemental Research at Tulane and Xavier Universities under John McLachlan, Ph.D. (past head of research at NIEHS), Berkson also collaborated with a cardiologist in Palo Alto, CA, on methodologies to save pre-gangrenous diabetic limbs from amputation.
The Name Kenilin
Kenilin is the name of both our medicine and our company, derived from the first names of the original developers of the product, Kenneth Burton MD and Lindsey Berkson MA CNS. Dr. Jack W. Moncrief, neprhologist and coninventor of Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) has been part of the co-development on a continuing basis. |
